This Master class is designed for the level 3 REPS Instructor. The class gives
candidates the knowledge and understanding to
prescribe core stability exercises to a variety of clients at different functional levels.
Students completing the day will understand the physiological principles that underpin core stability training and will be
confident in their prescriptive reasoning.
The course is taught over seven hours. The first half of the day consists of theory
and the second half of practical applications. The practical aspect will focus on correct techniques of a wide range
of exercises that are currently used within the fitness industry as well as teaching assessment techniques and
an introduction to postural analysis.
All candidates will be provided with a Course Manual and a Certificate of
Attendance on completing the day. There is no formal assessment process.

The content of the course is as follows:
1. A deeper understanding of the theory behind core stability:
- Knowledge of the key muscles and joints involved, their anatomy and function
- Movements of the spine and associated forces and stresses
- Posture
- Concepts of muscle imbalance
- The difference between local and global muscles
- The theoretical frameworks that form the basis of spinal/core stability
- The link between back pain and instability
- Dysfunction: Strength Vs Motor Control
- Education and training – the evidence and theory
- Progression: when to progress and how
- A review of the current literature
2. A realistic hands on practical approach in teaching core stability:
- Neutral spine and posture analysis; the importance of correct alignment
- Initial TrA activation and substitution strategies
- The PBU – it’s use and effectiveness
- The Swiss ball – it’s use and effectiveness
- Progression of exercises – what, when, how.
- Functional gym training
- High level stability exercises
